10 Best Reasons to Have Webquests in the Classroom

  1. Motivation- Students are more motivated to work on webquests because they are a different instructional method. The student is put in charge of their learning by having to find the information.
  2. Collaboration- If a student is unable to find an answer they can work with a partner to find the answer.
  3. Higher-Level Thinking- The questions require students to think about the question and create a suitable answer. Webquests are not about finding the answer and spitting it back out.
  4. Technology- Students are able to use a computer and find the answers on the provided websites.
  5. Resources- Students are able to see multiple resources for a particular topic.
  6. Research- Students have to find the answer instead of having the teacher tell them what the correct answer is.
  7. In-Depth- Students are able to learn more in-depth about a particular subject, within the limits the teacher has set.
  8. Constructivist Approach- Allows students to work more hands-on on an assignement. 
  9. Explore Issues- Students are able to learn new things on their own and they are able to read websites that are devoted  to the topic.
  10. Facilitator- The teacher becomes the facilitator helping students when they get lost on the Webquest. The teacher can guide the students to the answer if they are struggling with the assignment.

10 Best Reasons to Have Videos in the Classroom

  1. Storyline- If students have a storyline to follow, they may be more apt to paying attention to the video and see how it progresses.
  2. Relate- If a video is chosen that students can relate to in some form, they may be able to take away the lesson from the video.
  3. Creativity- If the assignment is to create a video based on a topic taught in class, the student will walk away knowing more about the topic beacuse they had to do more research.
  4. Illustrate Examples- Shows examples that would help visual learners remember the information better than lecturing about the information.
  5. Common Base of Knowledge- If all of the students have a base learning on one topic, in general,  then they are at the same understanding as their peers.
  6. Teach Effectively- Teachers can teach their topic more effectively because it is an alternative way to teaching the topic and presents the information in a new way.
  7. Active Class Discussion- Students are more likely to participate in class discussion if they feel like they have a voice about the topic being taught.
  8. Lesson Objectives- Videos can be connected to lesson objectives to help the students learn the topic better.
